Craftsmanship hits the right note:
Burmester x Robbe & Berking

“The essence of music is to give pleasure”, Aristotle already knew, referring to the enjoyment of a highly sensual audio experience. For more than 45 years, Burmester has continued this idea to perfection as one of the leading manufacturers of high-end audio systems.

To mark the 150th anniversary of Robbe & Berking, the two manufacturers, along with the Robbe & Berking Classics yacht shipyard, have collaborated closely to create something very special: a handcrafted, limited special edition of a high-end sound system. Over a year of development time has now gone into the project and the result is something to be proud of. The close relationship between Burmester and Robbe & Berking is based on the shared pursuit of the highest quality, which is deeply rooted in the DNA of both companies.

Unique design and exquisite materials

The entire system, consisting of the 111 Musiccenter, the 218 power amplifier and the impressive BC150 loudspeakers, which are real heavyweights at 180 kg each, is an impressive eye-catcher thanks to numerous silver-plated details. Each audio component is carefully crafted by hand at Burmester, while Robbe & Berking's masterful craftsmanship gives each silver-plated detail a radiant silver sheen. This presented particular challenges, as many of the silver details required different manufacturing techniques than most of the cutlery, tableware and other products in the Robbe & Berking range. However, with many tricks, years of know-how and a wealth of ideas, everything was made possible. Both teams are all the more proud of their countless hours and work steps and the visible success.

The design and craftsmanship symbiosis between the two manufacturers is particularly evident in the BC150 loudspeaker pair. This is the most impressive demonstration of the highest degree of perfection that is possible. Here, the fine woods of the luxurious oak Bar Trolley are used, which are otherwise used in the restoration of historic luxury yachts by the Robbe & Berking Classics shipyard. The speakers are designed with striking mid-century-style side panels that radiate a significant warm charm thanks to their subtle, dark wood tone. A shiny silver strip in the middle and silver-plated logo inlays on the sides complete the elegant design.

The fronts are adorned with a fully silver-plated end plate, whose wave shape, the anniversary relief, is based on the classic Robbe & Berking Belvedere design. The black mid-range loudspeaker and tweeter are located in this plate as a visually perfect color contrast. This particular design element was also elaborately hand-finished and silver-plated at the Robbe & Berking manufactory in order to highlight the visual center of the speaker fronts with a perfect shine. The silver's ability to reflect any incidence of light creates fascinating effects in one's living room.

This limited edition from Burmester x Robbe & Berking promises visual and audiophile enjoyment - add a whiskey or long drink in the matching Belvedere tumbler and the experience is perfect.“Without music, life would be a mistake,” Nietzsche used to say. Robbe & Berking would say “Without pleasure for the eyes and ears, life would be a mistake” and, together with Burmester, has contributed to this truth.

We are dedicating this limited edition to Robbe & Berking's special company anniversary and look forward to creating products for all the senses for generations to come.

Robbe & Berking

The silver manufacturer Robbe & Berking was founded in 1874 and is still a pure family business today – now in its 5th generation.

Manu Factum – made by hand – is everything that bears the name of the company. The master silversmiths in the silver manufactory and the master boat builders in the Robbe & Berking yacht manufactory are responsible for the unrivalled quality worldwide. It is not the limited possibilities of rational large-scale production, but the hands of the master craftsmen and women alone that determine the form and quality of each piece of work.

This is how cutlery and tableware of timeless elegance and beauty are created, which never just follow passing fashions or trends, but are made to last for generations. As the market leader in silver cutlery, Robbe & Berking is a supplier to the world's finest businesses.
