Storing silver cutlery correctly

Robbe & Berking silver cutlery is made to last and can be passed down over many generations. To enjoy the shine of your silver for as long as possible, Robbe & Berking offers a range of specialist products to store your silver cutlery. They protect the silver from becoming scratched or tarnished and allow it to be stored in style.

If you want to protect your silver from scratches and everyday damage, we recommend storing it in a Robbe & Berking cutlery bag or a Robbe & Berking cutlery case.

Remember though, you don't have to handle silver with kid gloves. Quite the opposite. Frequent or even daily use is highly recommended and the best protection against tarnishing. The fat in human skin actually inhibits the formation of sulphide, which is what triggers silver tarnishing.

Storing silver cutlery in a cutlery bag

Robbe & Berking cutlery bags protect silver cutlery from scratches, from humidity and from atmospheric pollutants (sulphides) which are responsible for silver tarnishing. The cutlery bags have the advantage of being extremely compact when rolled and can be used to store silver almost anywhere:

  • Slip the cutlery into the appropriate pockets
  • Fold over the upper part of the fabric once
  • Roll up the bag from right to left
  • Tie the bag closed with the ribbon

Robbe & Berking cutlery bags are hand-sewn in Germany by a local supplier and feature the usual high quality material you would expect from Robbe & Berking. Click here for an overview of all available styles and sizes.

Storing silver cutlery in a cutlery case

Robbe & Berking cutlery boxes are another storage option, offering each piece of cutlery its own special place. For solid wood canteens, Robbe & Berking offers the free service of customising the inserts to perfectly match your cutlery set. Robbe & Berking cutlery canteens are available in various designs for different sizes of cutlery sets. Click here to see all Robbe & Berking cutlery boxes.

Covering cloths are generally recommended for the silverware drawer, as they allow for less atmospheric exposure of the silver and can therefore also protect it from tarnishing. Simply place the covering cloth over your cutlery when stored in a canteen or a drawer, for instance. Robbe & Berking cover cloths are available in several sizes.

THE BOX

Robbe & Berking THE BOX, available together with a 24-piece cutlery set, is the most contemporary style of protective storage for silver cutlery. When closed, THE BOX protects cutlery from tarnishing and scratches and also makes an attractive centrepiece with an elegant design for any interior. When the silver cutlery is in use, simply remove the lid and place THE BOX in the middle of the table. A new kind of table culture - for special occasions as well as for everyday use. Robbe & Berking

The silver manufacturer Robbe & Berking was founded in 1874 and is still a pure family business today – now in its 5th generation.

Manu Factum – made by hand – is everything that bears the name of the company. The master silversmiths in the silver manufactory and the master boat builders in the Robbe & Berking yacht manufactory are responsible for the unrivalled quality worldwide. It is not the limited possibilities of rational large-scale production, but the hands of the master craftsmen and women alone that determine the form and quality of each piece of work.

This is how cutlery and tableware of timeless elegance and beauty are created, which never just follow passing fashions or trends, but are made to last for generations. As the market leader in silver cutlery, Robbe & Berking is a supplier to the world's finest businesses.
